Short Buys and Short Guys

Why is it that every time I have witnessed someone making a short buy-in at a land-based casino poker table they have been short, balding men? Seriously, although I admit that I have made a few short buys at the online casino in my life (enough to count on one hand) I have seen them repeatedly done by sometimes the same person at the same table. This is why I am speaking out against short buy ins – Not that I have anything against short, bald men, or that I don’t find them attractive, (Remember fella’s, it’s how you treat a woman that truly matters),but that I will have a temper tantrum if I see another short, bald man taking a short buy.

The reason for this venting is that I recently witnessed one player (who happened to be short and bald) make repeated short buys in a land-based casino poker room that only allows one short buy per player. After going broke on an initial buy-in of $600 this guy pulled out $300 and, claiming it was all he had. Well, after another thirty minutes he was broke again. He then proceeded to magically whip out another $400 from his empty pockets and requested another short buy. At this point a new dealer had entered the game and was not aware that Jerky Boy had already used up his short buy in. Someone spoke out to the casino dealer and the player was told he had to meet the minimum buy-in. He then magically pulled out another $600 and proceeded to go broke in a matter of time.

Now, imagine me standing to the side, watching this unfold out of shear curiosity, and then seeing Jerky Boy pull out $300 more and requesting a short buy. Again, a new casino dealer was at the table, along with new players. I could not stand it and had to put this guy in his place. I told the dealer he already used his short buy and then went on to tell Jerky Boy to take a course in ethics and morality. He smirked and walked away.

Why on earth casinos permit short buys to begin with is beyond me. Perhaps they think that players are going to end up squandering away every last penny they have – Or that players who have come far in a game deserve a break when they are at the end of their bankroll (Let’s hope it’s the latter, although it is probably the first reason) I understand this reasoning, but how do you stop a player like Jerky Boy, who obviously has the money to play, but is playing the system instead. If it was up to me, it should be like an online casino poker room, where you have no choice but to NOT take a players word. It is too easy to get away with, and it gives short, balding men a bad name. Hey guys, I’m on your side. So is Propecia. (Sorry! It was too easy – I had to go there)
