Online Casinos Happy About UK Appointment
Many an online casino was happy to hear the news recently
that Parliament Member, John Greenway, who led the
parliamentary committee that helped end tight restrictions on
British casinos, is being strongly considered to head the
Gambling Commission in Britain.
Considering that this is the top position affecting casino
gambling – one that is responsible for approving and imparting
casino licenses - the appointment of Greenway could lead to a
gambling extravaganza. Currently, it is assumed there are over
300,000 gamblers in Britain considered to have some form of
gambling addiction or abnormality.
One-hundred casino applications are currently in
consideration, including some from Las Vegas pioneers looking
to expand their casinos and take advantage of the loose
gambling laws in Britain. This could mean a casino in every
large town across the U.K.
And although the appointment must be made by the Culture
Secretary Tessa Jowell, who recently declared that all
gambling licenses will be permanantly taken from casinos who
are caught letting minors gamble in their halls, there has
been strong lobbying in Parliament to get Greenway in, thus
giving him a good chance.
So what does this mean to the online casino gambling
industry? Only more good things to come. The industry is going
strong in the UK, and will continue to do so with Parliament
support. If Greenway does get in, and he keeps binge gambling
in check, the UK could become a center for online casino
operations – Look out Antigua.
