Australia’s Crown casino in Melbourne was in the news recently, amidst some strong allegations; However, it was not the casino that was being accused of any wrongdoing. On the other hand, it was the Victorian Department of Human Services that received an investigation and close scrutiny regarding a situation in which two small children, ages ten and twelve, were found wandering on Crown Casinos property.

According to a casino spokesperson, Gary O’Neill, the two boys, who were already in state care, were picked up by security guards at 2 a.m. After calling the DHS, casino personnel were told to find a taxi-cab for the children, and send them on their way. But the casino found the instruction to be careless and dangerous. Therefore, they called the police, who responded to the casino and took custody of the children.

Australia’s Community Services Minister made a statement regarding the incident as being unacceptable, and that all claims by the DHS and the casino are being investigated.
