UK Gambling Bill Looks Promising for Online Casinos

It came down to the wire – but it came down, none the less.  Now that online gambling has been legalized in the U.K., the regulatory arm of the British Parliament will be coming down on the thousands of casino sites already operating from the U.K.  What is ultimately a success for both the U.K. and the online gambling industry as a whole, still has some kinks that need ironing out.

For a short time, it appeared the U.K. Gambling Bill would not be passed before Parliament adjourned for the year.  However, quick steps to compromise the bill’s legislation regarding super-casinos in the U.K. (meaning that instead of somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty new casinos on British soil, the bill would only permit one large, Vegas-style casino) allowed the bill to go forth with Parliament approval and up for Royal ascent.

The greatest achievement of the bill was the establishment of the Gambling Commission, which the Interactive Gaming and Betting Association will be working hand and hand with, essentially walking the new regulatory agency through the entire history of online gambling to the current times.  The new Commission will need to know where the current state of online gambling is in order to fix existing problems and prevent future ones.  One such are the Bill will crack down hard on is underage gambling.   U.K. Culture officials have voiced their concern and intolerance regarding underage gambling – And with online gambling legalized, there will be no room whatsoever for minors to slip through the cracks.

In regards to online betting, the Gambling Bill looks very promising and hopeful to any online casino ready to face the high standards of regulation that the commission will soon be enforcing.
