Casino Friendly Asia After All

In Asia, although Taiwan has been on a strict crackdown of illegal online casino gambling and sports betting, online casinos have never looked so promising as they now do in China, where legal gambling is taking off in vastly prosperous Chinese economy.

It seems the government is taking wind of how helpful legal gambling can be, especially in a densely populated area of willing bettors. In the first half of 2004, China’s tax revenue had increased a whopping 26.2% from the previous year. And with an increased number of citizen’s moving to the middle and upper classes, gambling is getting a good rap from the government, and is now being governed by even looser gambling laws.

Just look at Hong Kong, which has the world’s most thriving racetracks and the Hong Kong Jockey Club (which made a gross profit of US$423 million on soccer bets alone). And now the diversified, casino-friendly former Portuguese colony of Macau, which once was in the grip on a Stanley Ho casino monopoly, is handing out casino licenses to any investors who are willing. Also, take the western-style Sands Casino, which was the first casino in Macau in over forty years – It now caters to slot machine players, which was unheard of in past days.

Now there is a multitude of Las Vegas style casinos in the works to go up in Macau – and is being met with great support by Chinese officials. At this rate, making bets at an online casino from a Taiwanese based computer should be growing at a fast and legal rate, despite the recent happenings.
