Betting Trail Lengthens into China

More arrests have been made in China in connection with a large-scale, illegal online gambling ring that has spanned through the Asian continent. In recent weeks, police in Beijing arrested some three-hundred plus for taking part in illegal casino betting activities. It seems the trail is spreading further and further, bringing down betting dens in China’s Fujian Province, Fuzhou, Putian and Ningde to name a few.

In total, over one-hundred-forty computers have been confiscated, and now some six-hundred people have been arrested in connection with the online casino crackdown. China outlaws online gambling, and is now showing how very serious they are about enforcing it. It seems as of yet, that the bulk of these gambling rings were being run by two Taiwanese based websites, which were primarily offering real-time odds on sports games overseas.

So far, no connection with European gamblers has been made, in what simply seems like a large pool of sports bettors trying to win some money on European futball. However, the Chinese authorities do not view online casino gambling with a warm eye, strangely enough. Betting is commonly done in various card games, but the government has no interest in the revenue which is potentially huge in Asia. In what equated to approximately $1.6 million in US dollars, the funds were confiscated from the various gambling hideouts, where many of the computers were also based from.

Authorities expect more arrests to be made and state they have no intention whatsoever to let down on the prosecution of those partaking in casino online gambling.
