Antigua
Barbuda Online Casinos Under Attack
The World Trade Organization is planning to increase its
demands on the government of Antigua Barbuda in regards to
online casino gambling. In what seems like an attempt to
possibly shut down the operation of online casinos on the
small Caribbean island, the WTO is still in deliberation over
what to do about the situation.
Many believe the U.S. is coercing the WTO to take these
measures, claiming that Antigua & Barbuda-based online casinos
are still taking wagers from U.S. bettors. In response to
these allegations, the Antiguan government conducted a dispute
panel that defended its right to engage in monetary
transactions with American citizens –which was actually a
component of the compact between America and Antigua Barbuda
that was not being met by the U.S.
Although there are few countries with the proliferation of
online casino companies that Antigua Barbuda has, Mexico has
trumped its support for Antigua, siding with the country in
regards to its position as a smaller country engaging in
commerce.
Many online casino operators are keeping their fingers
crossed, for a ruling by the World Trade Organization to ban
online gambling and casino operation on the Caribbean island,
would be a devastating one. Currently there are a still a
handful of small countries that have legalized online
gambling, including Gibraltar and more recently, The Isle of
Man.
