Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Permits Slot Machines

The state of Pennsylvania has approved a legislative measure that will permit slot machine casinos to operate within state borders. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board recently met with state police officials and casino operations consultants to talk about the potential effects and problems that will come as a result of opening the gambling establishments.

Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Periandi stated that the Gaming Control Board needs to be ready to deal with illegal activities and crime, such as altercations within the casino itself, and even bigger issues like money laundering, loan sharking and extortion. The Board was strongly encouraged to approve strict guidelines governing the casinos operation procedures, and in developing their own guidelines for monitoring each casinos activities. Approving gambling companies to set up shop in Pennsylvania would be a laborious task they warned, reminding the Board that this was going to be no Las Vegas, where oftentimes the availability to obtain a gambling license comes to easy. Also recommended was requiring casinos to install fingerprinting machines in order to counter wanted criminals.

All in all, the Pennsylvania measure is permitting fourteen casino gambling establishments to operate up to 61,000 slot machines each. Facilities will consist of resorts, gambling parlor casinos, and racetracks. Pennsylvania becomes yet another state to legalize gambling albeit just for slot machines. The revenue expected to come from the move will bring in millions of tax dollars, which the state desperately needs. For now, the future of gambling in PA lies in the hands of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
