Guilty Pleas in Illegal
Gambling Case
William Lenis, his son, Will Lenis and nephew Manny Lenis
pleaded guilty to federal charges for advertising BetOnSports,
an online gambling company. The government, in an effort to
regulate and tax all online casinos and other forms of online
gambling, are actively trying to convict and clean up any
illegal gambling companies.
BetOnSports was not an online casino but a place where people
could bet on sports games. The company already pleaded guilty
for receiving bets illegally. And so, the Lenis’s, when
accused of involvement with the company, followed suit.
However, they were merely mice among men in this company as
they were just advertising it. This upset William Lenis’
attorney, Alan Ross, who stated, “These are the marketing
people that do direct mail, the advertising. They have nothing
to do with the operation of the web site, gaming—nothing. The
government has launched this campaign against Internet
gambling. Unfortunately, they sometimes leave in the wake the
people who were not necessarily involved.”
Their sentence is not expected to be dire, but will not be
given until Oct. 24.
