The Las
Vegas Ad You Never Saw
R&R
Partners, the creative advertisement agency responsible for
developing at least one controversial ad, is still hoping to
get some advertisement for the Las Vegas Conventions and
Visitors Authority, who was incidentally invited by Fox to buy
some commercial spots during the biggest game of the year in
2005.
The company
originally came up with an ad in which the ex-Miami Dolphin,
Ricky Williams is questioned by reporters on why he
mysteriously left the NFL, breaking his contract with the
Dolphins. He is then asked what he is doing with his spare
time, after which the ad slogan appears, stating, “What
Happens Here Stays Here”. The NFL felt the ad was suggesting
encouragement to participate in the not-so-good activities Las
Vegas has to offer, and would not be associated with condoning
that type of behavior.
The Fox
Network pulled the go on the ad, fearing a backlash from the
NFL, and asked R&R to submit another marketing scheme.
Replacing the Ricky Williams ad was one with a boxer who
claims he could not remember what happened the previous night,
and his trainer responding with a, “He’s Okay”. Now, according
to R&R spokesperson Randy Snow, the “What Happens Here Stays
Here Ad” is being marketed, with hopes the concept stays fresh
and new.
In the
meantime, the NFL still is not looking at the concept with a
light or humorous take, which R&R does not seem to be overly
concerned with. Las Vegas does in fact seem to be attracting
just as many people, if not more, interested in behaving in
ways that they otherwise would be too inhibited to around
colleagues and acquaintances.
