I’ve heard of some crazy lawsuits – like the lady who sued McDonalds for brewing the coffee she spilled on herself. Or the time a man, who burglarized a home, sued the homeowners for having locked him in their garage without food or water. And although some of the gambling lawsuits that have popped up over the years are not as utterly ridiculous as the high maintenance burglar, some of them do come close to being flat-out moronic.

Like this guy, Mark Merrill, who robbed a bank in the U.S., got caught, and tried to weasel his way out because he claimed he only did it to feed his gambling addiction, something which he was not responsible for - But that it was the casinos fault for permitting him to gamble in their establishment night after night.

This is what’s precisely wrong in our world – Nobody will take responsibility for their actions. Here’s one for you: Why don’t we start suing our mother’s for causing our gambling addictions, because they reminded us of "Lady Luck" too many times? Just wait…it won’t be too long.

The fact that Mr. Merrill’s case made it to the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which is almost the Supreme Court my friends, says quite a bit. Merrill’s defense centered around this Casino Eviction List, which now requires casinos to strictly abide to not letting Blacklisted gamblers in their casino. Thanks Mark for inadvertently getting this passed. However, at the time of Merrill’s run-in, a casino was not held accountable by law to inslure the list was being upheld. That’s why his case never made it to the Supreme Court, and why Merrill did time. I feel for you mate, but c’mon…be a man. Be responsible and take responsibility.

Seriously people…there are groups out there that can help if you have a casino gambling problem – If you’re an alcoholic too, then I really feel for you. One step at a time, right? It’s hard when you are in the middle of something to see beyond it. If you know someone close to you who is addicted, don’t turn a blind eye either. Instead, give them a sharp slap across the face…Okay, only if you have to. Just don’t be that greedy casino who will let lives fall apart over a little green stuff. Yes, I don’t think you are responsible for another. Just remember to ask yourself why it is you can’t fall asleep at night…Night Y’all.
